The Constitutional Court has annulled the South Tangerang mayoral election, which was won by candidate ticket Airin Rahmi Diany and Benyamin Davnie, saying the vote was “full of fraud and the glaring involvement of government bureaucrats”.

“The panel of judges annuls the South Tangerang Election Commission’s decision,” court chief Mahfud MD. read from the verdict Friday.

“The panel of judges orders the election commission to re-run the election at all polling stations in South Tangerang,” Mahfud was quoted by Kompas.com.

MK also ordered election-related institutions to monitor the election.

The re-run of the election should be held within 90 days, he said.

The court pointed to evidence of fraud, including calls made three days before the election for civil servants to stay neutral.
